Philip Childs, born in 1964, is an accomplished artist who is recognised as one of the leading wildlife and landscape artists in Ireland. He now lives and paints in Co. Wexford.
Childs has an innate ability to bring life to his subject. As a painter he is sensitive to the subtleties of light and shade, and to the character of the subject. His attention to detail is meticulous and follows a strict and authentic study of the subject, ensuring the surroundings; body movement and settings are all compatible with their true nature.
Childs’ recognised natural ability has led to critical acclaim, winning the ‘All Ireland Art Championships’ in 1995, which lead to interviews on National television and Radio launching his work into the public eye. His work is held in many private collections in Ireland and abroad.
“I don’t have any great philosophies or pretend to have the answers. I simply love to paint what I see, maybe evoke a memory for someone, bring a smile to another’s face, whether that’s a boy eating an ice cream or capturing the complex beauty which surrounds us every day, which so often goes unnoticed, then for me I have achieved a great thing.”
