Biography

In her work, contemporary Irish artist, Debbie Chapman’s paintings deal with the fragility of human existence. The characters are imagined otherworldly beings, living in a world where relationships with humanity, ecology and Al are based on empathy and kindness. They're about togetherness in a fractured society. Her way of dealing with the tension and instability of the current cultural moment.

Her latest work marks a shift in method from acrylic, back to her first love, oil on canvas. Bold lush plains of paint, rich with vibrant colour balanced by muted tones in a palette that's been influenced by colour choices that are only possible with oil paint.

Born in Co. Wexford and having lived in London, Brisbane & Tasmania, Debbie now works from a studio in West Dublin. She exhibits internationally and has been commissioned for public, corporate and personal collections, both here and abroad. In 2023 she collaborated with U2’s Adam Clayton to create an artwork for the “Elephant In The Room” project in support of The Samaritans.
