"My painting process is emotive and highly energised. Beginnings are often abstract as I allow emotions to take over... I move fast, until I feel the piece has a need for rest and further contemplation." - Kerr Ashmore

"Growing up in North Yorkshire, UK, so close to the Moors and the cold North Sea, I was surrounded by beauty and inspiration. I have always been so mesmerized by the ever-changing movement of light and dark that can so drastically change the natural landscape around me and my own emotional response to it.
I work between my studios in the Northeast of England and the Southern Spanish mountains. I love to paint and I have a strong need to create. My work explores memory, emotion and the way a particular place, environment or ever-changing light can affect the way I feel.
For me, there are so many different aspects to the creative process...one of those aspects is being out in nature, and one of my biggest sources of inspiration is the sky...particularly a stormy one. I like to walk high up into the hills where I'll sit or wander, taking photographs, writing or creating small studies (I call them my emotional landscapes because they're more about my emotional responses and observations).
My work doesn't always depict a particular place or time, rather, I collect moments and experiences. My painting process is emotive and highly energised. Beginnings are often abstract as I allow emotions to take over... I move fast, until I feel the piece has a need for rest and further contemplation." - Kerr Ashmore
