Bloom: Gormleys Belfast

Gormleys presents Bloom, a contemporary floral exhibition celebrating the enduring beauty and expressive possibilities of the floral form, opening at Gormleys Belfast on 17 October and running until 7 November 2026.

 

Bringing together works by Ian Cumberland, Stephen Johnston, Fran Mora and Jenny Belton,  Bloom explores the flower through a distinctly contemporary lens.

Across four individual artistic practices, each artist offers their own interpretation of colour, form, texture and atmosphere, demonstrating the versatility of one of art history’s most enduring subjects

From bold and expressive compositions to more atmospheric and considered interpretations, the exhibition moves beyond traditional floral imagery to explore the emotional and visual qualities of the natural world. Flowers become a vehicle for exploring colour, memory, light and abstraction, creating works that are both visually striking and deeply individual.

 

With four distinctive artistic voices brought together under one theme, Bloom offers an engaging look at how contemporary artists continue to reinterpret the familiar. The exhibition highlights the diverse approaches to floral painting within contemporary art, while celebrating the beauty and immediacy of the natural world.
