Bridget Flinn: Gormleys Belfast

18 April - 5 May 2026
Overview
"The aim of this exhibition is to make a loose, expressive response to the beautiful country I live in. These paintings are an exercise in free mark making, applying paint using large brushes, palette knives and other objects, trying to do justice to the landscape of Ireland." - Bridget Flinn

Gormleys is delighted to present a new exhibition of landscape paintings by Irish artist Bridget Flinn, running from 18 April to 5 May in Gormleys Belfast.

This latest body of work brings together a vibrant and expressive collection of paintings inspired by some of Ireland’s most striking locations, including the North Antrim Coast, Connemara, and Kilkenny.

The exhibition is rooted in a deep connection to the Irish landscape. Through energetic brushwork and a bold, expressive approach, Flinn captures not just the appearance of these places but their atmosphere and emotional resonance. Her process embraces looseness and spontaneity, allowing each painting to emerge through instinctive mark-making and physical engagement with the medium.

Working with large brushes, palette knives, and other tools, Flinn builds richly textured surfaces that evoke the rugged coastlines of Antrim, the shifting light and open expanses of Connemara, and the quieter, pastoral beauty of Kilkenny. The paintings are an exploration of movement, colour, and gesture- an expressive response to the landscape of the country she calls home.

Speaking about the exhibition, Flinn says:
"The aim in my work is to make a loose, expressive response to the beautiful country I live in. These paintings are an exercise in free mark making, applying paint using large brushes, palette knives and other objects, trying to do justice to the landscape of Ireland."

This exhibition offers viewers a journey through Ireland’s varied terrain, interpreted through Flinn’s distinctive and contemporary painterly language.
