Anna Mc Keever- Full Beam: Gormleys Dublin

25 September - 20 October 2025
Overview

Gormleys is proud to present Full Beam, a new solo exhibition by Irish contemporary artist Anna McKeever.

A former medical doctor who spent over a decade specialising in psychiatry, McKeever’s work draws from her deep understanding of the human condition, exploring themes of connection, belonging, and the Irish psyche. In particular, she is interested in how we relate to our land and to one another.

McKeever’s large-scale paintings are characterised by bold colours and dynamic textures, creating immersive semi-abstract landscapes. Ancient mythological themes are seamlessly blended with contemporary colour and texture.

In 2020, McKeever made the pivotal decision to leave medicine to pursue her passion of becoming a professional artist.  Since then, her work has garnered the attention of collectors and galleries across Ireland and beyond, positioning her as an emerging voice in the ongoing conversation about identity in contemporary Ireland.

Following several sell-out exhibitions in Belfast, this will be McKeever’s first major solo exhibition in Dublin. Her background in psychiatry informs much of her work, with the paintings inviting the viewer into a communication without words.

“As a psychiatrist, I was initially drawn to the profession because I was interested in people, or more specifically, in communication.

You often have to tap into hidden currents of thought, memory, and emotion. You must be a good listener,” she says.

“I think the same is true to be a good artist, painting is another form of communication, one that transcends the need for words.

It is still about listening, but in a different way; being more in tune with the landscape and our natural world."

“Art speaks in colour, texture, and form, you don’t need to be an expert to understand.”

The Official Opening takes place in our Dublin Gallery on Thursday 25th September from 6-8 pm.
