Biography
"Paul's paintings are abstract and expressionistic...his paintings are refreshingly individual and unique.  We can see the brushstrokes, the palette knife, and the paint - which, combined with his rich palette, result in stunning semi-abstract paintings." Jo Baring - Curator of the Ingram Collection.

UK artist Paul Bennett was born in 1975, in Buckinghamshire, on the outskirts of London.

After graduating from art college with a BA Honours in Fine Art Painting in 2001, Bennett began establishing for himself a successful career in graphic design, living and working in London. A few years on, Bennett returned to his love of painting, and he now lives & works in the wild and inspiring Lake District area of Cumbria as a full time painter.

With global representation, Bennett specialises in contemporary abstract seascape & landscape paintings. His work generates a sense of intimacy and isolation while leaving the subject open to interpretation. The intention is to create from memory, and to produce a finished work that is abstracted and more expressional than representational.

With the advance and rise of digital imagery, It has been Bennett's aim to create work that is most definitely painted; accomplished by using rich textures, multiple layers, poured paint, and brush/palette knife marks. Occasionally Bennett will refer to photography as a starting point, and as a way to engage with the surface and begin the initial mark making process, after this point it is all an abstract interpretation of the memories he has and places he has experienced.

This becomes a way of escaping the everyday mass produced visuals that we are constantly exposed to, and alters the way in which we are so used to digesting and assimilating our visual world. His approach is to record and comment on things that are more than visually apparent, whilst teasing out more than the eye can see, to draw people in and invite them to experience - not just consume - an image.

His works can be found in public and private collections worldwide. Paul's paintings are represented by galleries that also sell the works of Picasso, Hirst, Rothko, Matisse, Newman and Warhol; as well as many other revered artists.
